BCCI To Inaugurate Largest Cricket Stadium In The World
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad with a capacity of over one lakh is likely to host its first match between Asia XI and World XI in March 2020 upon the approval of ICC.
The newly appointed BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that he will seek ICC’s approval to hold an exhibition match in March.
The stadium will accommodate more than double the capacity of the old stadium. The area of the stadium will be spread across 63 acres with 50 rooms in the clubhouse, a swimming pool and 73 corporate boxes.
The construction of this stadium started back in January 2017 and it has been a commendable effort to build the largest cricket stadium in less than 3 years. The stadium has been made earthquake-proof and will feature LED lights instead of the standard lights used in other stadiums.
The old stadium in Motera has been part of historic events for Indian cricket. It was in this stadium that Sunil Gavaskar became the first-ever cricketer in world cricket to go past 10,000 runs. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly also stated that it will be Jay Shah who will attend the ICC’s Chief Executive Committee meet. However, the name of BCCI’s nominee to ICC hasn’t been confirmed yet.
