As the New year begins, new hopes are knocking on the door. I’m proud to have not broken yet…is tuning into more diverse titles on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5, and Apple TV+ in 2021. Sure, nothing beats the thrill of an action flick or a crime-drama series, but an entire Netflix Original Series dedicated to the history of swear words, hosted by Nicolas Cage, is pretty much right up there. The show will debut on the platform this week, along with these shows and movies on Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5, and Apple TV+.

Conspiracy theorists assemble! Surviving Death is a six-episode series based on best-selling author and journalist Leslie Kean’s book, “Surviving Death: A Journalist Investigates Evidence for an Afterlife,” that tries to answer the questions that have plagued philosophers for centuries: What does it mean to die? Is death the end of our existence? and more by weaving together research with firsthand accounts from those who’ve been close to — and even experienced — death. Release Date: January.


Inspired by one of the most bizarre cases to ever preside over in the Indian courts, Kaagaz, produced by Salman Khan and directed by Satish Kaushik, narrates the saga of Pankaj Tripathi, as a band performer, who’s declared dead on a government document while he is very much alive and kicking. The satirical comedy flick unfolds his journey of coming back to life and not bowing down to circumstances. Release Date: January 7.


Kaalidas is a 2019 Tamil crime-thriller flick, written and directed by Sri Senthil, that’s making its way to ZEE5 this week. Featuring Bharath, Ann Sheetal, Suresh Menon and Aadhav Kannadasan in pivotal roles, the plot follows a cop’s investigation of a peculiar suicide. Release Date: January 7


This Tamil direct-to-service release, directed by Dhilip Kumar, will take us through the life of Paaru (played by Shraddha Srinath), who finds a diary full of sketches and paintings in her new apartment, and decides to find out who left their artworks behind in any empty home. Thus begins her search for Maara (played by R Madhavan), the artist. Her journey traverses through a new realm of art, music, drama and romance in this flick. Release Date: January 8.


Lupin is definitely one of the most exhilarating titles on this list. The French series will follow Assane Diop’s life who in an attempt to seek revenge for his father’s death, turns into the ‘Gentleman Burglar,’ and decides to rob the Louvre. Release Date: January 8.
